Faith and Fortune by Marc Gunther

There’s a funny story about how I came across this book, Faith and Fortune by Marc Gunther.  It’s sort of one of those meant to be kind of situations where I was looking for one thing (a potential title for my next book) but instead found something else. And in this case what I discovered was something very special.

With all the unfairness going on in the world right now; banks receiving government bailouts while our neighbors are losing their homes, and companies choosing to conduct lay-offs at an alarming rate in order to ensure management bonuses; it’s good to know that are still companies in this world that care more about their employees and customers than their shareholders.

Faith and Fortune tells us about such forward thinking companies, including Starbucks, UPS, Southwest Airlines, Hewlett-Packard, Herman Miller, Staples, PepsiCo, Timberland and Tom’s of Maine.

I fell in love with this book and its message of hope. In a time when most bosses treat their staff with less respect than their dogs, and corporations continually try to pull the wool over their consumer’s eyes, this book is proof that profits and love can coexist. Yes, I said, “love.” When people are filled with love they tend to care about what’s best for the common good.  When they are filled with greed (the blood which flows through the veins of all too many famous CEOs) serve people and not the other way around.

Faith and Fortune is a reminder that this world could and shouldbe a better place if we all just stopped for a moment to ask ourselves, “What can I do today to help improve the quality of someone else’s life?”

I give this book 5 stars *****

Hey Marc, if you’re reading this post, call me.  I want to know more about how I can get involved in this quiet “revolution.”
