I came across this poem, Be Grateful by an unknown author, when I was writing my book, Gratitude and Goals in 2006. It’s hard to believe that something which so beautifully defines the essence of gratitude goes unclaimed.
When I read it I can’t help but connect fully with what the author was trying to teach us. Be grateful…for everything. Whether you think something is good or bad, it all has meaning. If you aim to live your life finding the reason(s) to be grateful in everything, you will literally begin to live a life of bliss. All negativity will drift away. Your relationships will bloom. Your dreams will begin to manifest. You will be happy.
This is the reason why I’m so passionate gratitude. It has changed my life in so many amazing ways. And it can do the very same for you, if you allow it.
I hope you enjoy this poem as much as I did!
Be grateful that you don’t already have everything you desire,
If you did, what would there be to look forward to?
Be grateful when you don’t know something
For it gives you the opportunity to learn.
Be grateful for the difficult times.
During those times you grow.
Be grateful for your limitations
Because they give you opportunities for improvement.
Be grateful for each new challenge
Because it will build your strength and character.
Be grateful for your mistakes
They will teach you valuable lessons.
Be grateful when you’re tired and weary
Because it means you’ve made a difference.
It is easy to be grateful for the good things.
A life of rich fulfillment comes to those who are
also thankful for the setbacks.
